I work pretty much work every weekend, the opposite to my boyfriend which makes it really difficult to see each other, especially when we're 170 miles apart! Luckily this weekend I had Saturday off, which meant we could actually see each other and do something fun!
London is my second favourite city (Paris will always be number 1!) and perfectly located about half way between me and Sammy. So I ran out of work at 8:30 on Friday evening, fell asleep on a coach for a few hours and woke up in Victoria Station. With only a few minutes to spare we hopped onto the tube, thank god Sam had already checked in the hotel and knew how to get there because I was still half asleep!
I've never seen St Pauls Cathedral up close, and the middle of the night seemed like a good time to have a wander around and we weren't wrong! The cathedral lit up against the dark sky is seriously dramatic, I so recommend it. Did I mention that we also found the infamous restaurant from the tv show 'First Dates'?
Outside The Paternoster Chop House aka the restaurant from First Dates
Finally getting to walk across the Millenium Bridge, with views of Tower Bridge and the Shard along the Thames, so beautiful.
One more bridge ticked off my bucket list... |
Finally getting into our swanky room.
Of course we had to have a bit of a lie in in the morning. Wouldn't it be criminal to pay out for a nice hotel and not make use of the facilities?
Whilst we were making the use of the hotel's wifi by uploading a few photos onto Instagram it popped up with a few posts also tagged at this location and one of them was at Leadenhall Market, which unknown to us was just across the road, so as soon as we checked out that's where we headed. Apparently it dates back to the 16th Century and was really cool to have a walk around, although it was literally DEAD bearing in mind this was Saturday morning in central London, very odd! We also later found out that Leadenhall is in fact Diagon Alley as scenes from Harry Potter were filmed here!
We decided to take a wander along the Thames again and just see what we found along the way.
Always a big fan of a couple selfie (sorry :/ )
I seriously wished it was summer when we came across this really cute bar/cafe, the seating consisted of brightly coloured sun loungers and deck chairs, so perfect for afternoon drink after work...
Big love for Tower Bridge although we've decided that the blue paint is lacking a bit of glamour, should probably be something a bit grander, maybe gold just a consideration Borris?
Guarding the Crown Jewels?
After wandering around aimlessly for about an hour we decided to hop on the tube to Camden, just to mix it up and see a totally different side of London. Turns out that decision was a big mistake.
Sam had never visited Camden before and I may have hyped it up a little after my first visit a couple of years ago with a friend. Only crucial difference was that my last visit was during the week, this was a Saturday. Not a good idea. It was BUSY, like seriously busy, I have not seen that many people in one place since I was in Asia. It was mayhem.Safe to say Camden is now Sam's least favourite place in London!
We popped into a few vintage shops and then made a swift exit, and headed towards Leicester Square.
Trafalgar Square
We had a quick browse around the Nationl Portrait Gallery which I loved, espeically the portraits of the all of Tudor Kings and Queens and a rather odd sculpture of a man's head made from human blood! Creepy but still inspiring!
Outside the National Portrait Gallery
Just a few more selfies, just because we were quite colourfully coordinated!
So that was our whistle stop tour of London, pretty exhausting but managed to see so much of this amazing city in such a short time and all with my top exploring partner! Just a note to myself probably not to go sightseeing on a Saturday again...
