Seven Of My Favourite Beaches

Monday, 15 January 2018

Apparently today is blue Monday, officially the most depressing day of the year and quite fittingly today I've been dreaming of sunshine and white sandy beaches all day! Anyone else?

These are a few of my favourite beaches both near (UK) and far! To give you little bit of inspiration for your summer hols! I'm certainly looking forward to adding to this list!

East Portlemouth across the water from Salcombe, Devon

This stunning little bay has been one of childhood favourites after spending time in Salcombe with our family friends every year since I was born. This cute little beach is usually quiet, the sand is golden and the water is cold but so clear! Hidden around the corner from the main beach you usually avoid the crowds here. Reached from Salcombe only by boat (or a 30 min drive) this is a really special beach.

Dune du pila, Test ale Busche, Bordeaux

The view from the top

Climbing to the top with the help of the campsite's ladder, still a challenging climb through the sand

The Arcachon Basin

Kiting on the side of the dune

Not technically a beach, but absolutely breathtaking I have never been anywhere like it since. The sand dune at 110 metres above sea level is the highest in Europe. It over looks stunning pine forests, one of which we camped in, and the whole of the Arcachon basin. It is truly mind blowing just how high and long this dune is, you could be in a desert. A real bucket list beach.

Freedom Beach, Koh Tao

The type of beach every backpacker dreams of. Clear, warm waters, white sandy beach, tropical forests surrounding it, little trees with swings and shell mobiles. This place is truly magical.

Wahekia Island, Paihia, Bay of Islands, New Zealand

A very special place for me and my boyfriend. After we had been together for only a couple of months Sam went travelling for six months, at the end of his trip and the beginning of my trip, we met here for 4 beautiful days. We took a yacht trip sailing around the island and stopped at Wahekika island. The island and the beach are as close as you could come to be on an inhabited island - blissful!

Porthcurno, Cornwall

Back to England again and one of my old favourite - Porthcurno! The softest sand, the bluest water and stunning coastline this place is seriously dreamy, especially on a sunny Winter's day when the beach is completely abandoned!

Swanpool Beach, Cornwall

Another one of my Cornish favourites! Just around my corner from my University town of Falmouth lies Swanpool Beach, the perfect cove for taking out a kayak, have an afternoon snooze in the sun or a BBQ on a summer's evening, all the reasons why I love Cornwall and this beach.

Oludeniz, Turkey

Just a short boat ride from Oludeniz you find yourself in absolute heaven - it's hard not be drawn in by the white sandy beaches and clear, warm tropical seas. Turkey is such an underrated place!
